When I left HM Forces I worked for a spell as a Ski Technician / Salesperson.

Behind the counter where the till was there was a sign saying, "The customer is always right".

In the staff room there was a sign that stated "Remember, the customer only thinks they are always right!".

It's nice to be nice and to those that aren't, I won't lose any sleep over them.

Yes, cool, calm and collected usually confounds and irritates rude people more and gets them buzzing like flies in a jam jar with the lid on  Evil

So true! During a 34 year career of running a post office, we encountered many very rude people - but we had a policy of being relentlessly nice to them and broke most of them down eventually  Grin If someone was rude beyond redemption to us, they got service without a smile from then on. I am glad to say that the nice people far outweighed the others though. Some of it is snobbery, looking down on a person who works behind a counter - it was quite noticeable that some people suddenly started being nicer to us when hubby joined the local golf club  Roll Eyes I have always made a big effort to be nice to people in shops and to thank them, also commending them to bosses/stores if I get particularly good service - customers are very quick to complain but much slower to give praise.

Not quite sure why this post is in the Naughty Room.

Maybe Ian wasn't sure where to post this and finding his way round the Forum.
